Shri Mahesh Poddar, Hon’ble Ex- Member of Parliament- Rajya Sabha from the state of Jharkhand (Ranchi), is a well-known personality of Jharkhand. He was born on the 14th of November 1949 to Late Kedar Nath Poddar in the small town of Gumla Dist, a few hours from the capital city of Jharkhand, Ranchi. He currently resides in Ranchi, along with his wife Mrs. Nirmala Poddar.

Shri Poddar is a successful businessman with a penchant for social causes. He has contributions in many diverse spheres ranging from development of small scale industry in the state of Jharkhand to the development of ancient Tanginath Shiva Temple in the remote part of Gumla Dist. Jharkhand.

A Mechanical Engineer by education, he chose business as his path and is immensely successful in the area with high tensile steel wire manufacturing units in Ranchi, Nagpur, Bangalore and Vishakhapatnam encompassing four states. He has traveled widely in India & abroad, to the countries like USA, China, Japan, Spain, Germany, South Africa. He has also represented India in – BRICS Political Parties Plus Dialogues, South Africa in December 2018. It was towards Building a Common Agenda, inclusive Common Development and Multilateralism in the 4th Industrial Revolution. BRICS Member States were China, Russia, India & Brazil.

He was also part of the BJPs delegation to China in August 2019. It was about current developments and prospects for the Indian Economy and Modi Government’s approach to Economic Development and suggestions on furthering India-China economic and trade cooperation.

He has also held important offices in various organizations namely –

  • Chairman, Steel Wire Manufacturers Association of India, for three successive terms from 2003-2006 & also Director of Wire Association International, INC, USA, an international body of wire industry professionals.
  • President, Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jharkhand.
  • President, Jharkhand Small Industries Association.
  • President, Junior Chamber International, Ranchi.
  • Founder member, Seva Bharti, Birsa Seva Sansthan Trust, Jonha, Ranchi
  • President and Friends of Tribal Society, Ekal Vidhyalay, Ranchi Chapter
  • Ex –Trustee of Sri Sri RavishankarVidya Mandir Trust, (SSRVM), Art of Living, Bangalore.

He has been active in politics and has been associated with the BJP since 1990s. In the past i.e. from 1998-1999, he was Sanyojak, Vyapaar Prakosth, BJP Vananchal Samiti. He has also served Bihar State BJP as General Secretary Udyog Manch 1996-1998. He had also held the responsible position of the State Treasurer of the BJP Jharkhand from 2004-05 to 2019-20.

He has been a Member of Rajya Sabha  during 2016-2022. He has been a member of various Parliamentary Committees. During his tenure he served in the following –
